AP charting roadmap to develop Vizag as an IT hub

State Secretary, Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (ITE&C) Bhaskar Katamneni on Monday explained the Andhra Pradesh's resolve to transform Visakhapatnam into an leading IT hub.

He gave details at a plenary session “Vizag as IT Hub” during the 28th National Conference on e-Governance (NCeG) 2025 here.

Katamneni emphasised that Visakhapatnam is positioned as “The Blue Edge of IT and Innovation” and is emerging as one of India’s fastest-growing tier-II cities for IT and emerging technologies.

In addition, Visakhapatnam hosts specialised research clusters in marine science, biotechnology, petroleum, and environmental studies, supported by institutions like Andhra University, IIPE, and the National Institute of Oceanography.

These provide a strong base for R&D-driven sectors including energy, materials science, and pharmaceuticals.

"The city ranks third in industrial corridors and national highways, is India’s 14th largest city, 5th most popular tourist destination, 9th largest GDP contributor, and 5th busiest port.

It also hosts over 20,000 employable graduates annually and has been recognized as the 4th cleanest city in Swachh Survekshan 2023," he elaborated.

Katamneni highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s long-term vision under Swarna Andhra @2047, which seeks to transform the State into a $2.4 trillion economy by 2047 with an annual GSDP growth rate of 10 percent.

He outlined that the plan includes the creation of green corridors, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a net exporter of energy, and ensuring regulatory clearances within 21 days to facilitate ease of doing business.
